Then whenever his journeys looped back that direction he started making a point to stay again. Zak never asked about the meetings Kaelurun disappeared to or the weight he visibly carried more of each time he passed through he just fed him, let him sit in the dirt in silence if that's what he needed and occasionally told him his sugar cane were growing crooked on purpose so nobody would suspect they were worth stealing. A caravan needed an extra set of claws and the caravan went north, then up, then out onto open ground under actual sky. Zak kept walking long after the job ended, until he found a stretch of surface soil nobody wanted, and stayed.
