ArtMap Plugin Documentation

Custom in-game pixel art creation system allowing players to craft virtual canvases, paint masterpieces using vanilla map colors, and secure copyright-protected artwork.

What ArtMap Does

ArtMap transforms in-game items into creative tools, enabling players to design custom 32x32 pixel art paintings directly on virtual maps without resource packs.

  • Virtual Canvases: Provides a dedicated 32x32 pixel grid workspace using vanilla map color palettes.
  • Easel Interaction: Uses physical craftable Easels and Canvases to enter a focused painting session.
  • Shading & Tools: Features specialized tools like coal to darken colors and feathers to lighten them, achieving multiple shades.
  • Copyright Protection: Secures original paintings with creator attribution so only the original author can generate authentic copies.

Getting Started & Crafting

Before you can begin painting, you need to assemble the core equipment:

  • The Easel: Crafted using items like sticks, leather, armor stands, and item frames. Place it anywhere in the world.
  • The Canvas: Crafted using maps, leather, and emeralds. Hold it and right-click your placed easel to mount it.
  • Drawing Mode: Right-click the mounted canvas to sit down and enter drawing interface mode. Press your crouch key to stand up and leave.

Painting Tools & Palette

Type /artmap to open the main GUI where you can browse color palettes, check recipes, and review tool mechanics:

  • Dyes & Brushes: Hold standard dyes and click the canvas to apply pixel colors (left-click for single pixels, right-click to drag lines).
  • Coal: Right-clicking a color with coal darkens the shade.
  • Feather: Right-clicking a color with a feather lightens the shade.
  • Compass: Allows you to flip your artwork horizontally or vertically.

Saving & Copying Artworks

Once your masterwork is finished, you can finalize and duplicate it using these steps:

  • Saving: Sit at your easel and execute /artmap save <title> to claim your original copyrighted copy.
  • Duplication: Combine your original painting with an empty map inside a crafting grid to generate shareable copies. Only the original author can produce valid copies.
  • Displaying: Place an item frame on a wall and right-click it with your finished map to display it as a picture gallery piece.
