The Blight upon the Sea
Basil's Story, Part I
In-universe date: Era Nova, January-February, Year 1
Real-world date: 29 July 2026
Author: Basil Blight
The waves of the sea rock gently beneath my ship. How long has it been since I last saw land? Days? Weeks? Months? I can't seem to keep track of time out here. The sea doesn’t keep count, and neither do I. It’s just me, alone, on this boat, and there’s nothing more I could ask for. Life has always been cruel to me. The unforgiving East taught me how to survive,
but my parents always told me survival wasn't just living. No... not truly. I want something more.
Something greater.
Looking out over the horizon, all I see is water and sky. And yet, somehow, what I feel is hope. Hope that maybe, just maybe, I could steer my own future. Not stuck with the wretched fate I have back home. To go on adventures, and to collect the many treasures of this world. Were these foolish dreams? Maybe. Will I perish on the sea? Possibly. But that will not stop me in my search of purpose in life.
That shall be my promise.
