The Return of Osiris II

In-universe date: Era Nova, January--February, Year 2

Real-world date: 12 August 2026

Author: Osiris

Osiris ventured into Kheta-Kedet. They needed to see their home, their queen, but as they approached the walls of the city, their chest tightened.

They gazed up... everything felt bigger than they remembered. Grander.

And then, the queen.

Dear goddess, the queen had barely aged a day. She was as beautiful as ever... and she didn't seem to recognize them.

Osiris felt a wave of relief, and yet their chest tightened, their mouth ran dry.

She didn't remember them.

Perhaps it was the mask or the hood, or the otherlandly garments they wore. So much had changed, and yet she still asked them if they knew where their name came from... as if suspicious of them.

They felt an urge to kneel before her, to call her "my queen," but they resisted the urge, following loosely as they offered their service in return for a mythical beast.

Get close.

Not too close, but close enough to be trusted. Close enough for her to seek them out... close enough for that tightness in their chest to fade.

They were lying... but they didn't care.

For in this moment, they were home.
