The Kapteinskap of Kuri//aes is a tribal chiefdom in the southern Gaunasub. They used to be semi-nomadic pastoralists and are primarily sedetary now, herding cattle and sheep. They are considered to be excellent at working with Copper and Pottery. Kuri//aes occasionally comes into conflict with the Khasholo over waterplaces and oasis.

History

Before the Migration

Before the Kuri//aes migrated to the Southern Gaunasub they lived in a Savannah called Gaunais further south as nomadic pastoralists for generations before Harakhas Gomas, herding cattle and sheep. Kuri//aes folklore claims that there were three brothers: Gomas, Gams and Awamab who each established their respective clans generations ago. Those clans eventually reunited long after the death of their founders and make up the Kuri//aes tribe to this day.

During the reign of Kaptein Kaiga Gomas, the Somotho entered the Gaunais and waged war against the Kuri//aes. It was during this conflict when later Kaptein Harakhas Gomas made himself a name. During the war, large quantities of livestock were stolen and killed on both sides. However, the Kuri//aes managed to capture llamas for the first time for themselves from the invading Somotho.

However, they were unable to stand against the Somotho when a drought and subsequent famine ravaged Gaunais and killed many people on both sides. This prompted the Kuri//aes, who were significantly weakened, to flee northwards into the Gaunasub Desert to evade the Somotho and drought entirely.

The Migration

The Migration lasted roughly one year under Kaiga Gomas. They migrated northwards and originally wanted to cross the woodlands of Hais!uti.

However, a tropical sickness befell many people just a few days after entering those tropical woodlands. Additionally, pillagers of unknown origins managed to steal some livestock.

Because of that, Kaptein Kaiga deemed it too risky to move through the Hais!uti and instead chose a path over the dry terracotta plateaus of Awadundu. They eventually reached the waterplaces of Kotogam, Gondogams, Awagam and Dimbagam and remained there for a while.

Afterwards, the Kuri//aes remained at the waterplaces Kotoab, Onguab, Dirogam, !Huni and Gamtjo. But due to the bad water quality, some decided to cross the Aw!ab River to reach the Awuti Peninsula and its waterplaces, which were unoccupied. However, the people who settled there were attacked by the Khasholo with camels, which made them flee across the river again.

Kaptein Kaiga Gomas saw this as an unprovoked act of aggression. Hardened by their battles against the Somotho, the Kuri//aes advanced northwest towards the settlement of Hubganda, which was under Khasholo control. They were able to drive the Khasholo out of Hubganda temporarily and capture some slaves and camels.

And shortly after they temporarily settled at the Haeva Lake, the Kaptein learned that there was a large oasis to the northwest and he decided to move there with his people. They also called this place Hais!uti.

Consolidation in the Gaunasub

The Kuri//aes established the Settlement of Hais!am in the Hais!uti after one year of migration. However, it quickly became crowded with all three clans trying to live there simultaneously. In the end it was decided that the Gomas Clan stays in Hais!am while the Gams Clan and Awamab Clan proceed to settle at nearby waterplaces.

When they tried returning to the Haeva Lake, the Khasholo had already returned and reoccupied the place. After being attacked by the Khasholo, the two clans decided to move eastwards. The Gams Clan quickly found the small oasis of Orutogams and Vetatasi very close to Hais!am and settled there. The last clan to settle down was the Awamab Clan further east among the terracotta pillars of Khorub in Dorurams, where they also found an obsidian portal of unknown origin and purpose, and in Awakutja south of the gold-filled Khurundu Plateau.

This marked the beginning of a sedetary lifestyle for the previously semi-nomadic Kuri//aes Harakhas Gomas eventually took over the Kapteinskap at the age of 25 after his father Kaiga Gomas died. He was selected due to his courage and efforts against the Somotho and Khasholo and his efforts of consolidation not only for his own clan.

It was during his reign when travellers and workers from Serrano learned of Kapteinskap's existence. The discovery of gold deposits at Khurudundu helped spreading the rumors among those who came there. Sometimes there were clashes between the Kuri//aes and Khasholo which resulted in the capture of livestock by either side. Relations remained irregular between limited trade and competition over the Southern Gaunasub and its waterplaces.

It was the first settlement established by the Kuri//aes in the Southern Gaunasub Desert in the oasis of Hais!uti. Hais!am serves as the current capital of the Kuri//aes and the seat of the Gomas Clan. It is an oasis with many trees and it can sustain agriculture, especially in its two deep fertile valleys.

Orutogams

It was among the first settlements by the Kuriaes in the Gaunasub before they arrived in Hais!uti in the final years of the migration.

It still serves as an important transit point between the other settlements and remains notable for its deep oasis, colorful sheep and copper tradition.

Dorurams

Its a minor village on the coast. Many of its houses have been integrated into the terracotta pillars. It is home to many talented smiths and webbers, the latter using spider strings to make clothes. There are minor gold mining activities.

The village also surrounds some sort of obsidian portal with a red rock which burns eternally. The purpose and origin of the portal is unknown for now.
