Ilyen

Ilyen is a Hollowed surface-liaison and the first of his kind to have formally proposed the establishment of proper diplomatic relations between The Hollowed and the nations of the surface world. He serves as a Plenipotentiary Emissary.

Biography and History

Place of Birth and Residence

Ilyen was born in the Hollowed settlement, his tablet sounded, and his life celebrated.

He currently resides in the home of his late mother, which is located near the (undecided, unbuilt). Many Hollowed visit him, if to help lessen their burdens or their to dispel internal issues.

He is to begin his formal diplomatic work in due time.

Rise to Prominence

Ilyen did not rise to a position of influence through combat prowess or the accumulation of material wealth, unlike that which is widely accepted within surface nations. Through the conscientious and consistent use of his voice, he began to act as a mediator in internal conflicts. His calm accounts of grievances and proposals proved remarkably effective in calming tensions that might otherwise have escalated.

During this period, Ilyen formulated a proposal that would define his standing among his people: that the Hollowed should seek to establish formal diplomatic channels with the surface nations. The proposal was met with considerable skepticism, particularly as it required that selected Hollowed to reside for extended periods on the surface, among sighted peoples whose modes of perception and communication differed radically from their own.

Ilyen naturally volunteered for the position himself.

Appearance and Personality

Appearance

Ilyen appears a lithe, tall figure, often taller than most humans. His skin is pale, but little of it is visible beneath his attire. His hair is pure white, long, and uncut, with a slight blue tinge at the tips.

He wears a loose-fitting robe made of another Tskalvo Hollowed's skin, worn loosely, with more noticeable sculk growth near the hem and along the inside of the sleeves. The hide is held in place by a chain that also holds a partial skeleton—a rib cage, spine, and pelvic bones—resting on the outside of the clothing.

He also wears a mask made of extra rib-like bones, covering his blind eyes and the upper half of his nose. At the center of the mask, the ribs curve inward to form a diamond shape.

Ilyen’s features are often described as androgynous enough that individuals have trouble pinning what he is on first glance.

Personality

First Impressions

Ilyen appears imposing and uncanny. He has almost no visible body language, a byproduct of the unsighted Hollowed. His speech is equally unsettling, his use of words more akin to older depictions of Common Tongue, and almost devoid of tone. He talks in a soft, quiet tone almost constantly.

Traits

Ilyen is outstandingly patient, taking time to respond and observe (in his way). He is adjusting to the temporary bouts of life on the surface, his mannerisms constantly adjusting as he gathers more information on surface peoples. He rarely reveals much about himself, his personal experiences, or about his people. He is secretive at best.
