Basil Blight was a famed seafaring explorer, pirate captain, and the founder of Basil's Buccaneers. Seeking a life greater than his harsh upbringing in the East, Basil set sail across the ocean in search of treasure and freedom. After surviving a devastating shipwreck in Year 1, he established a pirate settlement on the isolated islands of Tava. His long voyage came to a tragic end in late Year 4, when he succumbed to scurvy on the very shores where his journey in Aquila began.

Biography

Early Life & Setting Sail

Raised in the unforgiving lands of the East, Basil learned the harsh realities of survival at a young age. Though his parents taught him how to endure, Basil longed for something greater than mere survival. Refusing to accept a wretched fate back home, he set sail across the unknown waters in early Year 1 (Era Nova), driven by a desire for freedom, treasure, and purpose.

Shipwreck & The Founding of Tava

In mid-Year 1, while sailing westward, Basil's ship was struck by a sudden, violent tempest. The vessel's hull gave way under the pounding waves, and Basil was knocked unconscious by flying debris. He awoke afloat on a broken wooden plank in calm waters. Clinging to the wreckage, he dragged himself onto the shore of an uncharted island before collapsing from exhaustion. Refusing to perish, Basil adapted to his new environment. Over months of isolation, he built boats out of scrap timber and established the maritime settlement of Basil's Buccaneers, centered around the island capital of Tava.

The Final Voyage & Scurvy

By Year 4, years of solitary survival and endless labor building scrap vessels began to take a severe toll on Basil's body. What initially seemed like routine fatigue deepened into severe physical weakness. Soon, his gums began to bleed and minor bruises failed to heal, confirming he had contracted scurvy. Sitting along the sandy shores of his island in late Year 4, Basil let out a bitter laugh, accepting that his days of chasing treasure, braving storms, and plundering were over. Surrounded by the sea that had defined his life, the old captain peacefully succumbed to his illness, bringing an end to his storied adventures.
