Though it is possible that there are remains or descendants of the ancient parent kingdom no one claims rulership of the outpost. With further investigation connections to far away lands sharing the same past might be drawn.

Anemic Sentinel is a now insignificant stretch of land perched between the Kingdom of Arkemorth and the Circle of the Sūle Starhood. It is believed to be an ancient outpost that once served a provincial role for a fallen kingdom. The only known inhabitants are immigrants.

Geography

The Anemic Sentinel lies between the Kingdom of Arkemorth and the Circle of the Sūle Starhood. The region is dominated by ancient ruins, weathered fortifications and remnants of roads that hint at a far more prosperous past.

History

Role in the Past

With signs of battle, fortified structures and paved roads that have stood the test of time, the Sentinel may once have served as a significant waypoint along a pilgrimage route as well as an important frontier outpost. Lacking evidence for an independent sovereign state, historians generally believe the Sentinel was governed by a larger kingdom that has since fallen into ruin.

Parent Kingdom

With no existing nation controlling sufficient territory to require an outpost of the Sentinel's size, it is widely believed that its parent kingdom also disappeared long ago. As the influence of the parent state declined and internal struggles emerged, the Sentinel was left to fend for itself.

Abandoned by the crown, it gradually decayed into ruin. Although descendants or remnants of the ancient kingdom may still exist, no claimant has emerged to restore its authority. Future discoveries may yet reveal links between the Sentinel and distant lands that share a similar history.

Name

All record of the settlement's original name has been lost over the generations since the fall of its parent kingdom. The descriptive name Anemic Sentinel eventually became the accepted term among the few people who continued to speak of it.

Although anemic commonly refers to a lack of blood, the name instead reflects the region's pale, lifeless appearance. Like an anemic person, the Sentinel is long past its prime and drained of its former vitality.

Government

The Anemic Sentinel possesses no formal government and exists in a state of anarchy. Authority is determined solely through strength and the ability to survive.

No recognised ruler or administrative body exists.

Culture

Much remains to be rediscovered within this seldom-travelled hinterland.

Political System

The Sentinel follows only the law of the strongest. With its sparse population consisting largely of outcasts, immigrants and branded fugitives, few formal rules exist beyond those necessary for survival.

The inhabitants live amongst the ancient ruins, repurposing structures left behind by previous generations. Over time they have inevitably inherited aspects of the Sentinel's forgotten culture, despite knowing little of its original people.

Most travellers avoid the region unless they have little left to lose.

Merchants

No permanent merchants are known to operate within the Sentinel.

Calendar

In ancient times, a physical calendar formed by stacked stones was used to record the passing of years. The meanings of the oldest markers have since been lost through erosion and neglect.

With the beginning of the Era Nova, it has been proposed that a new monolith be added each year, continuing the spiral for future generations.
