This changed when he was around 15 years old due to the Somotho invading their land and driving them out. The Kuri//aes had to fend off the assaults of the Somotho. It was during this time where Tjongo started hunting animals for the tribe and doing other chores, for his courage and decisiveness he became a big figure in the kuri//aes army. However, they were unable to stand against the Somotho when a drought and subsequent famine ravaged Gaunais and killed many people. Tjongo is an agile person, due to his height being short, he can sprint, jump high and camouflage in the thick desert winds and the tall Savannah grases. His body is filled with scars, directly making him one of the most respected people in Kuri because of its warriors culture.
