Biography & History
Early Life
Vox hatched in a small tribe in the jungles surrounding current Grusaak. Her family held a position of considerable importance within the tribe and, from a young age, she was raised with expectation that she would one day inherit their responsibilities. Like other Wingmen she grew up surrounded by the close-knit community of her tribe and was thought the teachings of The Words of Driisar. Alas, her childhood came to an abrupt end during the Great Slaughter. At eight years old, Vox bore witness to her home being pillaged, burnt and her family slaughtered before her alongside much of the rest of her tribe ; some "lucky" children excluded to be taken by raiders. Vox was one of those "lucky" few. For the following years, Vox was passed between various groups and individuals far, far from her homeland. She was treated at different times as a servant, a curiosity, well, little more than property. Her unusual crystal-white scales made her particularly memorable (at least for the first few months), with some of those who encountered her believing Vox to be an omen or a sign of good fortune. Despite the circumstances, these years exposed her to much of the wider world and eventually led her learning Common, although Draconic remained her mother tongue. One household in particular treated Vox with a degree of genuine kindness, though, not to be mistaken, they still continued to regard her as something they possessed. The experience left her with a complicated understanding of kindness and trust, teaching her that someone could care for her, while still believing they had every right to own her.
Escape
At sixteen, Vox managed to escape captivity (from a lapse of judgement from the aforementioned "kind" household) ; she emerged from it alone and, after running away for days and securing her escape, free to decide where she would go. She did not return to Grusaak : her "homeland" lay half a world away, and nearly a decade had passed since she had last seen it... along the fact she had little to no money or clue how to go back to Grusaak. And, whatever home she remembered from childhood was burned down, changed entirely and Vox herself with it. So, she found herself in an unfamiliar land with nowhere to call home. She eventually came across a Guild building, which approached with little more than guidance hoping that, perchance, someone there might help her find somewhere safe to stay. Instead, she was offered a place within the Guild itself. The arrangement was initially little more than an act of kindness ; Vox had nowhere else to go and The Guild had little reason to turn away someone such as herself. So, The Guild became something she had not had since childhood : a place where she could remain without being someone's property. For the first time, she could simply decide what she wanted to do next. So, for now the guild is the closest and will have to do as an home.
