Finally, a moment of calm…

I leaned back in my seat, savoring the quiet of my room. It was time to reach for my journal - there was much to write. I just needed a little more rest before making my way to the shelf.

Still seated, I lifted my head and took long, deep breaths. As time went on, I realized just how exhausting ruling Kedet could be. Affairs could hardly be better: happiness was at an all-time high, and diplomacy was being handled well. I supposed I was doing my job properly, then, however difficult it may be.

Enough idleness. It is time to get back to work.

“Everything is fine, my Queen. I am looking after you. Rest now,” she said, placing a fresh, damp cloth on my forehead.

“I collapsed… Please, whatever you do, do not speak of…”

“Do not worry. It will remain between us, naturally.”

“What is happening to me? This isn’t the first time. It is not normal, especially at my age…”

Sitem moved closer and took my hands in hers.

“I will explain. You see…”
