Harakhas Gomas is the Kaptein of the Kuri//aes residing in Hais!am. When he was younger, experienced the journey of his people through the Gaunasub Desert while they were still being led by his father. He is a very honest and direct but also stubborn man who means well for his people. It is partly because of his nature that he occasionally comes into conflict with the neighbouring Khasholo.

Early Life

Before the Migration

Harakhas was born when his people were still living outside of the Gaunasub Desert in Gaunais where he spent most of his youth in. This changed when he was around 15 years old due to the Somotho invading their land and driving them out. The Kuri//aes had to fend off the assaults of the Somotho.

It was during this time where Harakhas, already mature enough to fight, managed to capture several peculiar animals called llamas, which the invaders brought with them. For this action he was praised by his father and Kaptein Kaiga Gomas and he gained significant popularity within his tribe at a young age.

However, they were unable to stand against the Somotho when a drought and subsequent famine ravaged Gaunais and killed many people. This prompted the Kuri//aes to flee northwards into the Gaunasub Desert to evade the Somotho. Harakhas followed as the migration of his people began.

Harakhas in Hais!am

In-universe Date: Era Nova, June-July, Year 1

Harakhas returned with his band from Awakutja after an unsuccessful search for more water places in the Omatjuti sand field. They even dug deep holes in the hopes of finding something but to no avail.

Nevertheless, he had returned to his residency in Hais!am.

A flourishing place thanks to the fertile Hais!uti valley. It is among the only places in the southern Gaunasub which allow extensive agriculture.

Always green fields keep their livestock well fed and every tribesman and tribeswoman is working diligently to make this place pleasant for themselves and future generations.

However, they had an unexpected visitor during his brief absence.

The visitor was not from the Khasholo.

He came from overseas on his boat and did not speak our language.

His intentions were peaceful and he only requested shelter, which was provided.

Those who provided it said that they sympathised with him since it was clear that the visitor had a long voyage behind him just like we once had across the dry Gaunasub.

But when I asked of his whereabouts, they said that he had already left...

The Kaptein in Orutogams

Harakhas received the news that armed bandits had attacked Orutogams.

'"Were they Kasholo?"

They were not.

He hurried with his band towards Orutogams. When he arrived in the evening, the bandits had already been thrown back into the Gaunasub. Many had died during the battle despite the settlement remaining largely untouched.

Orutogams was among the first settlements by the Kuri//aes in the Gaunasub before they arrived in Hais!uti in the final years of the migration. It still serves as an important transit point between the other settlements and remains notable with its deep oasis and colorful sheep.

However, it had been impoverished compared to other places like Hais!am.

The fact that the inhabitants of Orutogams are still stubborn enough to solely use copper for their tools, weapons and armor does not help their slow decline. Unlike Orutogams, other communities have already adapted and have been using better materials for the essentials while copper remains important for jewelry, ornaments and rituals.

The Kaptein remained there for several days before returning to Hais!am...
