Childhood

Vutt Virbi was born to a merchant family in northern Grusaak being the oldest of two kids, Vutts family held notable standing within the northern tribes often being one of the major merchant partners of many of the northern tribes. From a young age Vutt was trained and raised with the expectation that he would one day take over the family business and be the successor to his farther, Vutt was taught the Words of Driisar like any kobold in Grusaak would've been and when it came time to declare his purpose he stated it was to be the greatest merchant the covenant will ever see. In Vutt's teen life he would often go on expeditions for his parents heading to other parts of the Covenant whether it be to deliver goods or collect goods he spent most his teen life travelling picking up some of the common tongue from other merchants and even meeting some human merchants that helped teach Vutt the common tongue.

Adulthood

In Vutts early life he went on one last expedition before taking his parents position as head of the family he went far up north further then most kobolds ever dream of going and met many different types of people he was trading with tribes who had never seen a merchant like him before and had to earn trust the slow way instead of on his family's name and somewhere past the border he ran into human traders for the first time he was cautious at first then was genuinely curious about each other's goods and ways. He spent months trailing their routes on and off eventually being fully fluent in the common tongue and being able to communicate like he was a human. He came home different more self-reliant and less reliant on his father's reputation. It was the last real freedom he had before the ledgers and the title caught up with him and the last journey he'd take before everything he was set to inherit burned down behind him.

He had only been the head of the family for 10 years he was managing accounts and contracts his father had spent decades building and when the Great Slaughter tore through the northern tribes at first. Vutt was away at the time three days south on a trade route he wouldve taken a hundred times before hauling fish leather and eggs to a tribe near the coast. He returned to find the family estate burned to its foundations his father dead among the ruins his mother and younger sibling nowhere to be found not among the dead the survivors had gathered and not among the living either.

He spent weeks searching before anyone convinced him to stop. Nothing ever came of it there was no bodies, no ransom demand and no word from anyone who might have taken them. Just silence and a family name that had once meant something across half the northern tribes that was reduced to a single kobold standing in the wreckage of a warehouse trying to remember which contracts still mattered.

For the first time in his life Vutt had no purpose handed to him by inheritance or expectation. What he had instead was a trade network his father had spent thirty years building and was still technically intact tribes north and south who still recognized the Virbi name still owed debts still expected shipments and no family left to run it for. He kept it running anyway not out of ambition this time but because it was the only thing left of his father that hadn't burned and because the alternative stopping, sitting still and thinking about what he hadn't found in those ruins was worse.

Vutt didn't rebuild right away for months the burned foundation sat untouched telling himself there would be time for the house once the ledgers were sorted. Eventually, though he came to see the ruin as something he was avoiding rather than mourning and made himself start. He rebuilt smaller than his father would have no grand estate, no showpiece meant to announce the Virbi name to every passing trader. Just a solid functional house on the same foundation built mostly with his own hands and whatever labor he could barter for rather than buy outright. It felt less like restoring what had been lost and more like building something that was actually his.

He rebuilt the foundations of the house and his family name from the bottom up, following the success of a young golden kobold and supporting his rise through his own means he quickly established himself as one of the most important merchants in the north.
