Stella Heartwood (born October 23rd, Year 23 Era Vetus) was the former Demeralian Councillor, and current Governor of Coronado. Born just outside of Demeralia, she was raised by the Heartwood Family, a fairly prestigious family within the town. Once she reached adulthood, she moved into Demeralia, working at the General Store, until being appointed an advisor to the Mayor, and eventually Councillor. After the death of Governor Tanswater, a time of instability developed, during which Stella Heartwood successfully coalesced and formed a new government, with her as it's Governor.
Biography
Early Life
Stella Heartwood was born on October 23rd, Year 23 of Era Vetus. Born to the Heartwood family, Heartwood spent much of her early life on the families farm, the Heartwood Estate. While participating in farm work, much of her time was taken up by tutoring, leading her to develop an intellectual tint. Despite this however, the experiences on the estate ultimately shaped her personality, and her later life. Eventually, after reaching the age of adulthood, Heartwood moved into Demeralia, taking up a job in the General Store.
Demeralia
Heartwood, after gaining a job at the General Store, worked as a shopkeeper for the next two years, until Year 3 of Era Vetus, when the Demeralian Mayor suddenly passed, triggering a new mayoral election. The new Mayor, a family friend, appointed her as an advisor. This propelled her rise through the political ranks, until Demeralian Mayor Johnston appointed her the new Councillor from Demeralia in Year 0.
Councillorship
Heartwood's councillorship would begin with her parent's death, in which she inherited the families estate, serving as her base of operations for events to come. Soon after, Governor Tanswater passed away, leaving the office vacant. None of the towns could agree on a new Governor, and descended into squabbling. Heartwood was soon involved, leading the charge after the execution of thugs from Riverston.
It soon became clear that Riverston would not get along with Demeralia, and escalation continued. When it became clear that Dredgewater Falls had been abandoned, Heartwood lead the charge to elect a new Governor, but not before a group of thugs, hired by Riverston Mayor Glover, killed Demeralian Mayor Johnston, and injured Demeralian Sheriff Galloway. When war seemed inevitable, Heartwood successfully schemed, behind the back of Riverston, to elect a new Governor; herself. She began serving in Year 2.
Governorship
Heartwood's governship began with the begrudging agreement from Riverston of her role, as well as the establishment of the Coronado Rangers. She ordered the Rangers to construct a fort in Baxter, serving as their headquarters and center for law enforcement, as well as establishing a new northern outpost, which would eventually developed into the province of Calvera. However, her Governorship wouldn't be smooth sailing.
The Governor's office, already over-extended, was hit with the effects of the Great Drought, an unprecedented decrease in rainfall and water resources. The result was widespread famine, made worse by another unprecedented winter, in which temperatures dropped significantly. This resulted in deceisive, quick action, and Heartwood radically changed the framework and structure of Coronado's government, in order to better respond to crises, and in her own words, create a better Coronado.
Personality
Personality
Stella Heartwood can be cold, but not always calculating. She can often make decisions based off of emotions, not necessarily what's best. Along with this, her cold, external character shields the internal, emotional parts, which sometimes break through, often in a hot-headed form.
She has a strong sense of justice, and will ruthlessly punish those she deems to have done wrong. Coupled with this, she has a strong sense of ambition, and feels the need to continue to improve, despite the cost.
