Glorian Bread
Ever since the forest was lost, animals have been crawling into the village, hunting our sheeps and eating our crops. The village was hid beneath the jungle, over a cliff facing the sea, it didn’t take long for the colonizers to find it.
They approached us in their usual get-up of brown, red and tan clothing. Long coats, vests and practical leather shoes. One man stood distinctly among the rest — long brown beard, dark coat thrown over his shoulders, usual cigar in his mouth. Same man as we've met before. Józef Kataczyk.
"Apologies for the intrusion. We've been observing you closely for the time being."
"Go away, you pest!" — I responded hastily, fuming with anger. "You destroyed our home! You destroyed our culture!"
— I added.
"Sir, I assure you, this time we've only come to help. You've got many injured, and many more hungry. We wish to assist you with that.
"You'd only make things worse, ghoul. We will recover on our own."
Józef gestured at a carriage, filled with bread and fish. I looked at them. An amount of food we've never seen before.
I reconsidered. What would happen if I didn't take it? Would it just be hunger killing us, or something much worse?
