Álvaro is a minor nobleman whose family has ruled Valegranza from its great tower for several generations. The Valmoras aren't among the realm's most powerful houses, but Valegranza's position on the south shore of the Thee Sister Bay converge makes them considerably wealthier and more influential than their rank would suggest.

History

Childhood

Álvaro de Valmora was born in the great tower of Valegranza, the youngest son of its ruling lord. His childhood was spent among tutors and merchants, having a fairly unremarkable childhood.

Early life

As a young man, Álvaro served several years commanding a small fleet, hunting pirates that threatened Valegranza's trade. He would eventually return home following a plague that killed his older siblings, assisting his aging father. Following his father's death, Álvaro inherited the lordship of Valegranza.

Álvaro commanded a small fleet charged with protecting the bay. He earned a respectable reputation hunting pirates, escorting merchants, and keeping Valegranza's waterways secure. His naval career was cut short when his older siblings died to a plague, forcing him to return home to assist his father and prepare for rule.

Álvaro is an experienced sailor and capable naval commander, with particular talent for navigation and ship handling. He is also a competent administrator and negotiator. Despite his military experience, however, Álvaro is not a particularly good personal fighter.
