The Joint Northern Railway, also informal known as the Great Northern Railway and JNR, is a joint railway established between several nations and organizations across the North. Founded under the Charter for a Joint Northern Railway, it was created to improve transportation, trade, and cooperation between the north.
The railway operates as a joint undertaking, with ownership shared among its signatories. Unlike a railway controlled by a single actor, the JNR is governed by a council in which each member holds one vote.
A central principle of the railway is the preservation of national sovereignty. While members cooperate on railway construction, technical standards, and operations, each retains the right to determine what infrastructure may be built within its own territory.
