The Dealer of Death

Roulette was born 24 years ago. He first started out in the nether with a small group of Shae traders that would trade gold for valuables with other creatures in the nether. Roulette hated this life. He wanted out as soon as possible. He wanted to roam free in the overworld. He wanted to live.

The Swap

Roulette appeared in the same traveling group of silent shadow illusionists as Grey Spade. In the early days, they were like brothers, practicing combat and manipulating dark magic. But while Grey used his illusions for harmless tricks and performances, Roulette’s magic had a sickening edge. His pranks weren't funny. They were sadistic. He took joy in causing real panic, breaking minds, and drawing blood. Roulette's illusions began projecting horrific, violent imagery that deeply disturbed the others. They called him crazy.

The Banishment

When Roulette was only a teenager, the others decided his bloodlust was a threat to the troupe's survival. In a silent, unanimous verdict, they chose to purge him. They didn't just cast him out, they executed a banishment ritual to strip him of his connection to the troupe's magic.

The ritual went horribly wrong as Roulette fought back with feral rage. The dark magic imploded, violently scorching his body. The mystical backlash permanently stained his clothes and skin into a palette of pitch-black and blood-red burns. Cast out into the freezing mists, bleeding and broken, Roulette found a single, ruined playing card stuck to his torn vest: a crimson Joker card. He laughed out loud breaking the sacred rule of the silent Shae and embraced his new identity as a monster.

The Shadow of the Spade

Years later, Roulette returned to the groups camp seeking answers, only to find the entire group had already vanished into thin air. All that remained was the echo of Grey Spade’s ascension. Grey had been chosen to wear the iron theater mask, inheriting the legacy Roulette felt was stolen from him.

This broke the last of Roulette's sanity. While Grey traveled the world becoming a celebrated, mischievous performer for kings, Roulette became a loner. Driven by cosmic nihilism and a murderous streak, he wandered the outer empires alone, earning a legendary, terrifying reputation as a masterless jester who treated mortal lives like a rigged game of chance.

The Calaveria Reunion

Now 24 years old, the psychotic jester has suddenly resurfaced, slipping through the shadows into the Republic of Calaveria. By sheer twist of fate, the two estranged "brothers" have finally reunited within the new nation.

Unlike the past, Roulette makes no move to fight Grey Spade, nor does he actively sabotage him. Instead, he simply watches, grins, and lingers in the periphery of the Skeleton Empire. His sudden arrival and true intentions remain completely unknown. Grey is left entirely in the dark, forced to look over his shoulder, wondering if this "dealer of death" is here to seek bloody revenge for their past, join the nation, or if he is simply waiting for the perfect moment to spin a chaotic wheel of fate that will tear Calaveria apart.
