The Sovereign’s Shadow, Part I

President Massimo Re walked alone along the edge of the newly poured harbor wall, his hands tucked into his tailored suit as cold morning fog rolled off the bay. The recovering nation was rapidly expanding its infrastructure, but it desperately lacked hard military power, a dangerous vulnerability with hostile factions threatening to cross into its borders. Hearing the rhythmic splash of oars through the haze, Massimo made his way down to the pier just as a small wooden rowboat bumped against the dock. Stepping onto the wet timber was Roulette, a notorious rogue and master tactician, incongruously dressed in grand jester’s motley layered beneath gleaming, enchanted diamond armor with a faintly glowing spear at his side.

When Roulette revealed he was searching for new land to settle after weeks on the open water, Massimo saw a risky, desperate opportunity. A conventional general would fail against the coming threats, but a chaotic power like Roulette possessed unmatched tactical prowess and martial strength. Standing inches from the armored fugitive, Massimo made a bold offer: total command of the national defense force, an estate, and a government title in exchange for protecting the realm.

Roulette paused, letting out a low, theatrical laugh at the sheer irony before his eyes sharpened with fierce calculation. He agreed to the terms, and there on the sunlit pier, an unlikely pair struck a deal. The politician in his pristine suit and the geared-up jester in shimmering diamond plate holding his lethal spear. They quickly ironed out the specifics of tactical autonomy and chain of command before shaking hands, sealing an alliance that would rewrite the nation's military future.
