The Exiled

Excalus was a knight who was cast out of the very kingdom that he swore to protect, driving him mad with rage. In retaliation, he stole a sacred weapon, bringing death to all who crossed his path, labelling his murders as the will of his kingdom, Roselia. His sacred weapon's name has been lost to time, and the very weapon has never been properly documented. Some say it was a flail, others say it was a hammer, and some records even call it a mere extension of his armor, a fist as dense as a meteorite that he would crush his enemies within seconds.

Excalus and the history of his weapon get murky after this point, as many records of his existence have been lost to time or purposely destroyed by the Kingdom of Roselia to hide the truth of Excalus's murder spree, as well as their complacency with the issue. His story reasonably would have ended here, with his memory being of a once honored knight driven insane with hatred, however, Roselia always seems to reemerge in the modern age, whether that be in the form of "lush caves", strange objects found within our soil or sands, or in this case, a mineshaft where a strange weapon constructed using a dense metallic head with the leg of a breeze as a handle. It was a mace, although witness accounts describe it as a design they had never seen before, with air vents in it's heavy core. Unfortunately for the miners, they had been mauled by the time the sun rose across the horizon the next day, shining light into the new overgrown mineshafts, covered in the ancient bloom of Roselia.

According to the admittedly sketchy account of an explorer who journeyed into the same mineshaft, which is now abandoned, he claimed that the weapon was picked up by an invisible figure before murdering every single member of his group, and when the figure had the weapon within its hands, it was visible again. Although this may seem like an incident separate to Excalus, or a cover up to hide a possible string of murders committed by that explorer, he shared one crucial detail, his assailant was wearing grey armor with a long green scarf, one of the most consistent details of Excalus's existence was how he dressed, and more specifically, his habit to decorate his armor with a long green scarf.

Many historians believe that Roselia held the key to immortality, mainly due to one of their queens, Queen Esmerelda, IX, having six deaths on record, although that could simply be an error in historical records. Some believe that the armies of Roselia held the bloom itself inside of small figurines of gods, saving themselves when they were on the brink of death, but only for one strike, but someone living as a phantom presence beyond death, that is unprecedented.
