Fear-Walls
Fear-Walls
I woke up with a cloth wrapped around me. Someone had pulled me out of the water and dried me off. I went back to the water's edge in search of my rowboat. Unsurprisingly, it was torn to shreds. I quickly noticed that I was hugging the trident tightly, as if it was a person. As I began to watch the sky darken I raised it almost instinctively, waiting until it began to rain. The ocean laid out in front of me, the last hurdle I needed to cross to reach Queen Semet.
I had seen this in one of Risa's books, tridents which could soar through the air when it had enough moisture, tridents which, when used correctly, could almost act as flight.
I breathed in and out slowly, pulling the trident higher and higher. The trident pulled back with a strange tension, almost as if it was begging me to release. I granted its wish and let it move forwards.
The launch was so intense that the trident almost flew out of my hands, but I managed to hold on. In under a second, my feet had left the ground and I was in the air. Wind rushed around me as I ascended, leaving the shore behind. I spun through the air over and over again, landing in the ocean just off of the shore.
My shock quickly became amusement, and I did it over and over again, twirling through the rain for what could've been hours. Eventually, I tried to go a bit higher, first by slightly raising my aim, until it became a game to see how high I could go, and I aimed directly upwards. I let go, expecting to feel as free as I did every other time, but it felt different, wrong. As soon as I realised how high I had gone, I began to scream, involuntarily at first, until I was breaking down. When I hit the water again, I pulled back one more time, to the nearest stretch of land that I could see. I climbed into the sand, refusing to even look at the trident. I stared at the ground instead, not wanting to face the sky either.
I only stopped when I noticed the sand beneath me become harder, and suddenly there was a guard rail next to me. I looked up and paused. The flag from Queen Semet's map was now in front of me on either side of a massive door.
