Valdemar had expected many things, when he become the regent. Arguments over foreign influence with the Sogn, or about taxes with the købfolk.
What he had not expected was to fight a horde of monsters pouring out of what remained of Holy Interdam.
The remnant had sprung up, restored as if time and weather had no effect, with a glowing purple light standing proud, as if it was begging folk to come closer.
Kirkebæk had called it a portal, when he get a close look, a comment that made several of the priests look angry. Valdemar did agree it look like a portal, but keep his opinion for himself
Valdemar also understood why the sogn was angry.
Those ruins had for generations been seen and venerated as a remnant of the Godking's work: their strange pillars of dark purple, stonework that never seemed to be affected by the weather, and the nearby dirt always stayed red, no matter what. This had gone on for so long that no one knew the origin behind them or the reason, but accepted it as the truth.
Now it had become a matter of immediate concern, his concern and responsibility to deal with it. His first course of action was to order a 24-hour watch to secure them and make sure no idiot would get close. Valdemar had hoped it would be enough for now. Events outside of his control would prove him wrong.
