"To build is to worship. To discover is to honor the Vormgever."
Vormgeloof, formally administered by De Orde van de Vormgever, is the official state religion of the Technate of Koperdam. Centered upon the worship of De Vormgever, the Divine Craftsman and Architect of Creation, the faith teaches that the world was intentionally left unfinished so that humanity might continue shaping it through knowledge, craftsmanship, perseverance, and honest labor.
Unlike many religions, Vormgeloof places little emphasis on ritual alone. Instead, followers believe that worship is demonstrated through action. Every bridge erected, every illness cured, every invention perfected, and every discovery preserved is regarded as another step toward fulfilling the purpose entrusted to humanity by the Vormgever.
The faith has profoundly shaped the identity of Koperdam, influencing its education, architecture, government, scientific institutions, and public works. Within the Technate, the pursuit of knowledge is not merely encouraged—it is regarded as a sacred duty.
History
Genesis
According to Vormgeloof, De Vormgever brought order to a formless world through wisdom and design. He raised mountains, carved rivers, formed the seas, and filled the world with life. Yet creation was never intended to be complete.
Rather than fashioning a perfect world, the Vormgever left His work unfinished, entrusting humanity with the responsibility of continuing it. Every generation inherits the duty to improve what came before, transforming the world through ingenuity, perseverance, and discovery.
This belief, known as De Wereld is Onvoltooid (The World is Unfinished), remains the central doctrine of the faith.
Foundation of the Faith
The earliest teachings of Vormgeloof were compiled during the founding of the Technate of Koperdam, where they became the spiritual foundation upon which the nation was built.
As Koperdam expanded, these teachings were organized and preserved by De Orde van de Vormgever, establishing a unified religious tradition dedicated to the preservation of knowledge and the continual advancement of civilization.
From its inception, the faith developed alongside the nation's academies, workshops, and observatories, making religion and learning inseparable institutions.
Development
As generations passed, Vormgeloof evolved beyond its original scriptures. Rather than treating divine revelation as something confined to the past, followers believed that every meaningful discovery contributed to humanity's understanding of the Vormgever's creation.
This philosophy led to the establishment of Het Groot Archief, whose ever-growing collection transformed the faith into one centered not only upon preserving ancient wisdom, but also upon recording humanity's continual progress.
Teachings
Core Beliefs
The teachings of Vormgeloof are founded upon several principles that define both the faith and the society it helped shape.
- Knowledge is sacred. Learning and teaching are acts of devotion.
- Progress is duty. Every generation must leave the world better than it inherited it.
- Perfection does not exist. Every invention, structure, and theory can always be improved.
- Work is worship. Honest labor performed for the benefit of humanity honors the Vormgever.
- The world is unfinished. Humanity exists to continue the work of creation.
Together, these doctrines form the philosophical heart of Vormgeloof and guide the daily lives of its followers.
The Three Founding Scriptures
The earliest teachings of the faith are preserved within three sacred scriptures collectively known as De Fundamenten (The Foundations). Unlike later works preserved within Het Groot Archief, these texts are regarded as immutable and form the theological basis of Vormgeloof.

The Foundation of Creation
Describes the creation of the world and explains why the Vormgever intentionally left it unfinished, entrusting humanity with the responsibility of completing His work.
Het Fundament van de Kennis
The Foundation of Knowledge
Teaches that curiosity, learning, observation, and reason are sacred gifts through which humanity comes to better understand both creation and its Creator.
Het Fundament van de Arbeid
The Foundation of Labor
Declares that meaningful labor is the highest expression of faith, teaching that invention, craftsmanship, healing, teaching, and public service are all forms of worship when performed for the betterment of society.
Het Groot Archief
The holiest institution of Vormgeloof is Het Groot Archief (The Grand Archive), a living repository dedicated to preserving humanity's greatest achievements.
Unlike the Three Founding Scriptures, the Archive is never considered complete. Its collections continue to expand as new discoveries, inventions, architectural works, medical breakthroughs, historical records, philosophical writings, and scientific treatises are accepted into its halls.
To have one's work preserved within the Archive is among the greatest honors attainable within the Technate. Rather than canonizing saints, Vormgeloof immortalizes contributions, believing that a person's greatest legacy is the knowledge they leave for future generations.
The Archive is divided into four principal halls:
- De Hal der Bouwmeesters (Hall of Master Builders) — Architecture, engineering, infrastructure, and public works.
- De Hal der Natuur (Hall of Nature) — Medicine, biology, chemistry, agriculture, and the natural sciences.
- De Hal der Geschiedenis (Hall of History) — Historical records, biographies, maps, and chronicles.
- De Hal der Uitvindingen (Hall of Inventions) — Blueprints, mechanical designs, prototypes, and inventions.
Organization
De Orde van de Vormgever
De Orde van de Vormgever is the governing body of the faith and serves as both its spiritual authority and its foremost scholarly institution.
Beyond overseeing temples and religious affairs, the Order administers academies, libraries, archives, observatories, and workshops throughout the Technate. Its members are expected not only to preserve knowledge but also to expand it through study, research, and public service.

The First Architect
The supreme spiritual authority of Vormgeloof and guardian of Het Groot Archief. The Eerste Architect preserves the Three Founding Scriptures, oversees the Order, and serves as the foremost interpreter of the faith's teachings.

Senior officials responsible for supervising regional temples, academies, archives, and scholarly institutions.
Meester
Master
Engineers, physicians, architects, scholars, philosophers, and educators who dedicate their lives to advancing knowledge while guiding others in the teachings of the Vormgever.
Gezel
Journeyman
The faithful. Every follower begins as a Gezel, striving to honor the Vormgever through curiosity, discipline, study, and honest labor.
Centers of Worship
While temples remain places of worship, Vormgeloof does not separate spiritual life from intellectual life. Many religious complexes are constructed alongside academies, libraries, workshops, observatories, and laboratories, reflecting the belief that learning itself is sacred.
The greatest of these is Het Groot Archief, regarded as both the spiritual and intellectual heart of the faith.
Culture
Vormgeloof has become inseparable from the culture of Koperdam.
Education is regarded as a lifelong obligation, while invention and craftsmanship are celebrated alongside traditional acts of piety. Temples commonly function as schools, libraries, and community workshops, and many of the nation's greatest architects, engineers, physicians, and inventors have also served within De Orde van de Vormgever.
The faith also places great symbolic importance upon copper, whose resilience, utility, and ability to be continually reshaped have made it an enduring emblem of progress and refinement.
Among followers, a common saying reflects the philosophy of the faith:
"A classroom may be as sacred as a sanctuary, and a workshop may honor the Vormgever just as greatly as a temple."
Relations with Other Faiths
Vormgeloof generally approaches foreign religions with curiosity rather than hostility. Followers believe that every civilization seeks to understand the world in its own way, and they often study foreign philosophies, traditions, and histories in the hope of expanding humanity's collective knowledge.
Faiths that encourage learning, craftsmanship, and the advancement of society are typically respected, even where theological differences exist. Conversely, doctrines that glorify ignorance, reject inquiry, or seek the deliberate destruction of knowledge are regarded as contrary to the teachings of the Vormgever.
