The Technate of Koperdam (Kopersch: Het Technaat van Koperdam) is a sovereign diarchic meritocratic technocracy founded upon the ideals of knowledge, innovation, and progress. Governed jointly by two Chief Artificers, the Technate believes that civilization is never complete, and that every generation bears the responsibility of advancing the one before it through science, engineering, architecture, medicine, and industry.

Centered around the towering mountain overlooking its capital, Clockhaven, Koperdam has become one of the foremost centers of learning and technological development in the known world. Rather than measuring status through birth or inheritance, the nation recognizes merit, rewarding those whose achievements contribute to the advancement of society.

History

Formation

The origins of the Technate of Koperdam lie in the migration of the Kopers and Westmarkers, two peoples united by a shared belief that civilization should be built upon knowledge, craftsmanship, and perseverance. Led by Sir Percival van der Berg and Henry Westcroft, they set out in search of a homeland capable of supporting their vision.

While Henry remained with the settlers in search of a suitable place to establish a permanent settlement, Percival embarked on extensive expeditions to chart the surrounding continent. His surveys provided the earliest reliable maps of the region, documenting its rivers, mountain ranges, climates, and natural resources long before the nation's borders were ever drawn.

The search culminated in the discovery of a vast plain dominated by an immense central mountain. Recognizing both its strategic importance and symbolic significance, the two founders chose the site upon which the foundations of Koperdam would be laid.

Early Development

What began as a modest encampment gradually evolved into a thriving industrial settlement. Workshops, foundries, farms, and roads were constructed, while the surrounding rivers supplied fresh water, transportation, and fertile land for agriculture.

As new discoveries were made and infrastructure expanded, the settlement grew into Clockhaven, the capital of the Technate and the center of its political, industrial, and scientific life.

Clockhaven

The capital of the Technate and the heart of its political, scientific, and industrial ambitions. Built upon the fertile plains surrounding the great central mountain, Clockhaven serves as the seat of the Chief Artificers and the birthplace of the nation's earliest workshops, academies, and public works. Although still developing, the city already reflects the ideals upon which Koperdam was founded: careful planning, engineering excellence, and a commitment to continual progress.

Vestad

Located to the east of the central mountain, Vestad is a fortified settlement currently under construction as one of the Technate's first major expansion projects. Conceived as both a defensive stronghold and a center for eastern development, the city is intended to safeguard the approaches to Clockhaven while supporting future settlement beyond the capital.

The project is overseen by Katherine Kingswell, a Westmarker and Master Architect of the Technate. Under her direction, Vestad has been designed with a strong emphasis on defensibility, efficient urban planning, and long-term expansion, embodying the same engineering philosophy that defines the rest of Koperdam.

The Central Mountain
