Prior to Era Nova Era Vetus
It is widely known that a prosperous world before Era Nova had existed. A world filled with many various people and nations, mythical beasts and magics, all thriving together in harmony. Until a sudden horrible apocalyptic event took place. The worlds most tragic event, which caused all previous civilizations to fall. Everything had gone up in flames. Realms, nations, magical creatures, one by one they were all either slain, or fell to whatever horrors the tragedy brought with it. No one knows how it started, or what lead to it. In todays day and age, all that is left are traces & cinders of the old world.
Era Nova, Year 1 Archived Era
"The first year of Era Nova marked the beginning of a new age for the peoples of Aquila. Across the world, nations established themselves, old societies developed new ambitions, explorers crossed unfamiliar lands, and discoveries began to connect peoples who had previously known one another only through rumour."
- January: The modern age of Aquila commences with the gradual erosion of global isolation following a legendary Cataclysm that reduced the great ancient civilizations of the past to forgotten ruins.
- January--February: Basil Blight begins his personal journal while drifting upon the open sea, seeking purpose, hope, and treasures far from his cruel past. Simultaneously, a young shulk named Regulus Belwing escapes his head archivist training in Vozuch, taking with him his most prized possession, Diana's scriptures & blessings, after bidding a final, emotional farewell to his sister Remy before stepping through an unstable gateway to find a free life in the Overworld.
- February--March: Sir Percival van der Berg embarks on his legendary surveying expeditions, documenting towering mountains, dense taigas, a mysterious black glass monument surrounded by boiling pools of lava, and a forest populated by gigantic crimson and brown fungi. Meanwhile, Henry Westcroft kneels in the snow of the central mountains, sketching plans for Westcroft Peak and laying the foundations of the Technate of Koperdam. In the southern grove, the fairy Mist Tyrius begins her druidic observations after discovering a striking rock formation.
- March--April: The Fool awakens adrift in a wooden boat, catching sight of a distant, unfamiliar skyline, while Stella Heartwood receives a letter of inheritance bequeathing her the Heartwood Estate near Demeralia. In the southern deserts, Osiris awakens from death and approaches Kheta-Kedet in secret, while Queen Semet embarks on her ceremonial Daybreak sea voyage to legitimise her divine rule. In Choroba, the rural farming village reports the sighting of an enormous, shadowy bird releasing a fine pollen-like powder into the flower forest.
- April--May: Stella Heartwood assumes duties as councilor of Demeralia, while Henry Westcroft hears a peculiar clockwork chime emanating from the southern grove. In the north, Astesh Ùshriredëm witnesses a fading star trail across the sky, setting out on a journey known as the Trifta.
- May--June: Henry Westcroft ventures into the southern grove, meeting Archdruid Sylvis Pardali and securing geographical guidance to map the world beyond Clockhaven. Meanwhile, Percival van der Berg discovers the decentralised canyon town of Serrano and documents its unwritten Frontier Code. At home, construction of the defensive fortress city of Vestad begins under Katherine Kingswell.
- June--July: Thabit begins his merchant journal in Kheta-Kedet, preparing for his first trading tour, while Kaptein Harakhas Gomas guides his pastoral Kuri//aes people through the Gaunasub Desert to settle in the fertile Hais!uti valley, establishing Hais!am. In the northern oceans, Valdemar Hvide plans the stone capital of Kingsport as a monument to the glory of the Godking.
- July--August: Basil Blight is shipwrecked during a violent storm, washing ashore on a rocky island where he vows to rebuild his life, while a five-man village expedition into Choroba's flower forest discovers discoloured grass, mycelium, and bizarre fungal growths.
- August--September: Sir Percival van der Berg crosses the northern dunes into Kheta-Kedet, meeting the towering, veiled Queen Semet and discussing architecture, city planning, and Kheta-Kedet's fierce rejection of active magic. Concurrently, Koperdam's labourers break ground on their primary iron workshops.
- September--October: The villagers of Choroba continue to study the strange, discoloured flora of the forest. In Koperdam, Henry Westcroft uses the geographical lines provided by the grove's druids to refine the boundaries of the Technate's expanding national maps.
- October: Sir Percival van der Berg enters the Union of Coronado, visiting the Bright Wolf Saloon and meeting with Stella Heartwood on her estate to discuss Coronado's decentralised governance. The Government of Koperdam announces the opening of Clockhaven Eastern Station, marking the completion of the nation's first operational railway.
- October--November: Rullen Bellfore arrives at his isolated windstead in Mühn Proper to assume his duties as provincarch.
- November--December: Sir Percival van der Berg discovers a strange brownish-grey fungal growth in a southern field, formulating a temporary medicine to ease the local villagers' paralysis-inducing illness. Returning to Koperdam, he sends his detailed coordinates to Henry Westcroft, who compiles them into the first comprehensive World Map. This survey is distributed to leaders across the globe, providing a common reference for the first time. Simultaneously, Tofu the Cat begins her chaotic, food-demanding adventures along the docks.
- Late December: High Chief Estorrum of Baylara trades an ancestral spear to a traveller from the Mystic Hand for an Orb of Power. The trade marks the first documented return of active magic to the world, but it immediately plagues the High Chief with terrifying, unexplainable nightmares.
"For thousands of years, the peoples of Aquila had lived among the ruins of a forgotten world. In the first year of Era Nova, they began to build something new - and, for the first time in generations, the world began to remember itself."
Era Nova, Year 2 Archived Era
"The second year of Era Nova was a year of connection. Nations that had once stood separated by oceans and deserts began to trade, negotiate, explore, and compete. Yet as the world grew smaller, its dangers grew closer - and beneath the progress of civilisation, something ancient was beginning to stir."
- January: Osiris departs Kheta-Kedet to settle in an abandoned structure on the outskirts of Serrano. In Coronado, resource shortages and civil unrest prompt Stella Heartwood, Sheriff Galloway, and Mayor Johnston to travel to Riverston to negotiate with Mayor James Glover, who flatly rejects proposals for a unified government.
- January--February: Osiris conducts a clandestine return to Kheta-Kedet, noting with unease that Queen Semet appears unchanged by time. Meanwhile, the Koperdam Atlas Bureau opens its doors for cartographic commissions.
- February--March: Mist Tyrius begins a frantic search for her missing ghast, Whisk, in the southern grove, while Queen Semet reflects upon her family's legacy, future trade, and the eventual succession of her daughters.
- March--April: Serrano opens its cultural history museum, library, and foreign embassies. In Coronado, the cold war between Demeralia and Riverston deepens as Mayor Glover rides away from peace talks, leaving the southern councilors in a political deadlock.
- April--May: Industrial progress clashes with public dissent in Clockhaven as anti-railway graffiti painted by the Sulehood is discovered scrawled across the newly opened Eastern Station. Chief Artificer Henry Westcroft attempts to dismiss the creative vandalism, but his attention is quickly consumed by a sudden, violent tremor in his drafting hand.
- May--June: The global adventurers' organisation known as The Guild officially establishes its presence in Aquila. Queen Semet meets Osiris under his dark cloak at Kheta-Kedet's gates, trading rare flying squids for his architectural designs. In Dorurams, Kaptein Harakhas Gomas consults Serrano miners on gold-extraction techniques and meets Sir Percival van der Berg, receiving the completed World Map in exchange for Sniffer Eggs. Concurrently, Kuri//aes traders purchase slaves from Coronado, while a wandering Mage explores Clockhaven, documenting its steam-powered machinery as a spectacular new form of science magic. In Coronado, a Riverston gang raids Demeralia, resulting in a street battle that ends with the beheading of Mayor Johnston and Stella ordering the execution of the gang's leader. In Koperdam, Henry Westcroft's hand tremor worsens, forcing him to draft Clockhaven's grand copper and coal warehouse in complete, barred isolation.
- June--July: Torraence Lacy completes a gruelling trek from the cold lands to Serrano, while the Royal Emporium of Istrania opens a temporary field shop. In the north, Sienna Ùshriredëm recalls the painful memory of a brutal raid on the steppe that had driven her to the great forests years prior.
- July--August: Henry Westcroft's hand palsy deteriorates into total forearm paralysis. To hide his failing limb, he wears heavy leather work gloves at all times, secretly plotting to flee Clockhaven to find a cure.
- August--September: Queen Semet hosts a grand farewell feast in Kheta-Kedet before embarking on an official state visit to Koperdam, where she tours Clockhaven and visits Percival's private workshop. In Coronado, Stella Heartwood convenes the council at her estate, uniting the governorship and establishing the volunteer Coronado Rangers. Meanwhile, a paralysis-inducing sickness sweeps through Choroba, Prince Gavilios of Baylara is killed in an Illager ambush, and Seras breaks out of a cocoon with grey-and-black wings as a newly awakened Icari.
- September--October: Semet and Percival share an informal meal in his private workshop, where the Queen removes her veil, revealing her striking orange eyes as the two discuss the isolation of leadership.
- October: Henry Westcroft's secret quest reaches its climax. Journeying into the frontier, he reaches the tower of Electrus. In a gruelling procedure, his dead limb is amputated and fused to a copper prototype prosthetic via a blinding surge of electromancy, marking the era's first cybernetic integration.
- October--November: Seras returns to her northern tower only to find her mentor Risa deceased in a bedroom destroyed by ash and blackened ruins. In Coronado, Stella Heartwood meets secretly with Riverston councilor Ally Kingston to plan a unified governorship.
- November--December: Semet and Percival journey west to the village of Choroba to investigate the paralysis-inducing sickness, discovering the abandoned village of Choroba filled with spore-covered corpses and capturing a live sample of the shape-shifting, invasive Alveare. In the south, Kuri//aes traders bypass the Khasholo unnoticed to trade gold for red mangrove timber from Istrania.
- Late December: Sekhem officially founds the Vanguard of Thoth, a secretive warrior order sworn to protect Kheta-Kedet in absolute solitude. The year closes with Aquila's nations increasingly connected through diplomacy, trade, exploration, technological exchange, and the institutions that emerged during the first two years of Era Nova.
"By the end of Year 2, Aquila was no longer a world of isolated peoples. Trade routes crossed continents, maps revealed lands once unknown, nations exchanged knowledge and ambitions, and distant societies began to shape one another's futures. The foundations of a truly connected world had been laid."
